Question
I just visited Texas for my first time. Sitting out at my daughters house in Missouri City I seen many very large birds just soaring way up in the sky. They were black with white on the end of their wings. Being my daughter is from Michigan and not in Texas long she had no idea. Could you maybe help me find out what they are. Thank You,

Answer
Okay, I've given this some thought. I'm going to have to ask for some more information.

1. Are you near a body of water?

2. In your opinion, was the bird a shore type bird or a bird of prey?

3. Was the bird crow-sized or larger?

4. How many birds were in the flock?

5. How were they flying? In circles? In a straight path? In a V-formation?

6. Did they make any sort of noise?

7. Describe their body shape? Long and slender? Stocky? Thick wings?

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
