I read another question submitted here by another visitor about the legality of capturing wild pigeons in New York...  so I hope you or Grahame can answer this very related question.  I have a neighbor who has captured 15 or more wild pigeons and is keeping them in a roughshod coop in his back yard.  I'd like to know if this is legal in Arizona. These birds used to swoop and fly above our yard and roost in our giant palm tree; it was a wonderful thing to watch. But now our tree has gone sadly silent.

I don't know the individual state laws, but it depends on the species of pigeon. If they are indigenous Band-Tailed Pigeons or "Rock Doves" they are protected. It's illegal to cature any wild animals in pretty much every state. Some species are legal to shoot, but only during hunting seasons and only in very specific geological areas. There are domestic pigeons that can be kept as pets, but catching them from the wild is discouraged.

Call animal control or the department of fish and game. Someone there will be able to tell you what the laws are in your state and/or county.

If I had to guess, I'd say they are going to make her let them go and possibly fine her as well.
