Birding/Cardinal

Question
I ahve a cardinal tapping on my bedroom window every morning at 7am for about a month.  How do I discourage the bird?
Thanks.

Answer
Okay, couple things.

1. Is this a first or second story window?

2. Does the window have a reflective surface on the outside of it?

You see, it's mating season. The cardinal is being territorial. He sees his reflection and thinks it's another bird trying to horn in on his territory.

If you could do something to the window to make it less reflective, that might help.

This is an age old problem -as old as windows anyway.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
