Birding/Robin

Question
QUESTION: We've had 2 robins make a nest in our front bush over the last several days.  Yesterday and today it seems that they are gone.  Would the robins simply abandon their nest without laying eggs?

ANSWER: If the weather has been cold sometimes the female will delay laying for a bit. If nothing happens for another week or so probably a predator has caught the female. If you have Bluebirds also please contact me again. Bluebird Bob.

QUESTION: Unfortunately the weather has NOT been cold; on the contrary, it's been in the 70+. I've noticed today that only one robin has been lingering around.  It flew into the nest this morning (after I emailed you) poked it's head around in the nest and bit and then left. You asked if there were bluejays around and the answer is yes - although I have not seen them in the front yard where the nest is located.

ANSWER: Be patient for another week or so. If nothing happens then something has happened to the female. This is not unusual in the bird and animal world. Also some of it is planned to eliminate the slower and dumber to keep the species strong. Bluebird Bob. PS- I asked about Bluebirds, not Bluejays.

QUESTION: Again, thanks for answering so quickly! We'll be patient, but my gut is telling me that this was not the brightest of robins (her nest is somewhat right there out in the open!)  Even so, I hope that nothing bad has happened to her!  To answer your questions, no we do not have any bluebirds in our area...I wish we did!  Thanks again!!

Answer
Many people have Bluebirds but do not know it as they are insect eaters and do not come to seed feeders. If you live where there are many houses close to you you probably do not have them as they need a bit of space. However many people are very happily surprised when they put up Bluebird houses.
