Question
i found an bird egg on the ground what do i do

Answer
I can't tell you much without knowing what sort of bird it is. If the egg is on the ground, that means it's fallen and the chances of it still being viable are pretty much non-existent.

In otherwords, you don't do anything.

If you're in school still, take it to your biology teacher. Some of them like to collect that sort of thing.

In the off chance that this is one of the species that actually nest on the ground, you should probably leave the egg where it is. Some species of shorebirds create nests that consist only of one or two sticks. It wouldn't look like much to us, so we might not recognize it as an actual nest.

If you want to send me a picture, I can take a better look at the egg. But I doubt it's viable now.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
