Birding/pigeon nesting

Question
Hi Julia, I live in Colorado and have found a pigeon nesting on 2 eggs on the ground outside of our entrance kinda tucked away but this is not a very protected area from the elements.  She has been there approximately 3 days with what appears to be a mate with her. Is there anything I can do to help protect the area a bit more or is this normal nesting behavior would hate to see the eggs lost or frozen as we have another storm a brewing over the next day or so.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer
I hate to say it, but you need to leave this one up to nature. Pigeons aren't very bright and they often nest in such places. However, they are also used to urban settings and have adapted quite a bit. Don't move the eggs. Just let them deal with it.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
