Birding/Mesa Lovebirds

Question
I just moved to an older part of Mesa AZ, after living out here for awhile. I noticed some small green parrots. they hang out in the back yard, and fly through the neighborhood, which I eventually deduced were love birds.  Well they are pretty cool and I like them....so without having to go to the big box stores....are there any "around The house" items I could put out back to attract them..watch them feed...I have heard they like the sugar water in hummingbird feeders, true?...any info would be most appreciative. thank you!

Answer
Actually millet would probably be more attractive, or one of those bell shaped things you can hang that are made of seed and adhered with honey.

I'd be surprised if they were Lovebirds, though -unless they escaped someone's home or the pet store. Do you have a picture?

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
