Birding/baby bluebirds

Question
We have had a pair of bluebrids nesting in our yard for several years.  This year they had 5 eggs...all hatched 10 days ago.  Today we found the 3 dead and 2 barely aliove in the nest.  (It got down to 35 degrees last night.)  The parents havenet been back all day, so we brought the 2 home to try and help them.  We have gotten a bit of water and mealy worms in them.  Please let me know what else we shoudl be doing.
Thank you!
Deborah

Answer
I commend you for trying, but this is almost impossible to do. Remember that even if you can feed them to full growth they need training to forage, avoid predators, etc. The best practical solution is to find a bluebirder in your area who has Bluebird families about the same age where a baby can be added to an existing family. Google the North American Bluebird Society and they may be able to help you find a Bluebirder in your area.

Possibly something has happened to one or both of the parents, or if the weather has been so cold that food has been in sort supply the parents may have had to stop feeding to save themselves. This is not unusual in nature.
