Birding/bird nest in our house

Question
Hi, we have this year a bird nest in our ventilation hole (I think it's link to the aircon, too). Two years ago we didn't know and found a nest with two baby bird almost dead because we used the aircon. Last night we took the nest out and already two eggs in the nest. We don't know what to do. The parents birds left last night and come back in the day time. We put the nest in the little bird house next to their original one but they don't seem to notice. What can we do?

Answer
You're doing all you can do. Since you already moved the nest, the proverbial damage is done. The parents might continue to incubate or they might not. If you're adventurous, you can incubate them. Give them a chance to find the babies, though.

For future -see if you can put a screen over the hole to keep birds from nesting in there.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
