Birding/one blue egg -- no mama!

Question
I cut one of bushes in my garden and came upon a nest with one blue egg in a tree next to it. Now this nest is "exposed" since the bush which I did cut was in front of it. I have been watching all day to see it a bird will come and nothing. I am not sure if this is an older egg, or have I scared the mama bird. ( i hope not, I feel awful)

Answer
It is probably a robin's nest, especially if there is a lot of mud in the nest construction. Give it a bit of time and see what happens. Sometimes if a nest is new or with only one egg a disturbance can cause abandonment. Also a predator may have gotten the female. Don't feel bad. If it was an active nest and the pair decides to start somewhere else they will replace the egg. Please contact me again if you have bluebird houses.
