Birding/Bird freaking out

Question
I have a bird that for a few months is flying on my front porch and just goes crazy chirping and flying around back and forth from the tree to the porch, like he is trying to tell me something.  This goes on all day long.  I cannot figure out what it wants.  Driving me crazy???

Answer
Probably it means that they are nesting near the entrance to your home (poor choice on their part) and that they are threatened by your presence. Once they realize that you are not a threat to their babies, they will probably stop. If you're certain there is no nest anywhere, then I have no idea.

What kind of bird? I'm guessing sparrow or finch. But mockingbirds are fairly aggressive to intruders, when nesting.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
