Birding/Cardinal crashing into house windows

Question
For over a year, a red cardinal has been crashing into every window of my house from daybreak until dusk every day.  I have tried closing blinds, etc. and it still continues to do it.  My windows are getting scratched and I am losing sleep.  What can I do?  Thanks.

Answer
Cardinals love windows. I don't know if it's the red color or what. More so during breeding season, because they are territorial.

Here's a good link that explains some options. If you're still lost, let me know. One thing that I have found works on the sparrows is placing random, shiny objects around the garden to distract them from the window -preferably mirrored surfaces.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
