Birding/birds sitting on driveway

Question
I found a baby bird dead in the middle of my lawn yesterday morning.  Since then, 2 birds have sat on the driveway or under the bush for over 24 hrs now.  They will not fly away.  Why is this and what can I do.  They did not leave even after we removed the baby bird.

Answer
Hmm...I'm guessing they're either Robins or Mourning Doves. There's nothing you really can do. They need to get it through their heads that the baby is gone and it might take another day or so before that happens. Sad to watch. Sorry to hear about it.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
