Birding/crazy junco behavior

Question
Dear Rodger, We live on the coast of Maine and juncos are here all year. However, we have noticed a junco tapping at our storm door. I thought it might have been seeing a reflection in the glass. This has been going on for about a month. On closer inspection it has pecked a very large hole in the aluminum. In the last two days it has pecked all the way through 2 layers to the inside. I'm surprised it's beak is strong enough. Why would it do this? Could it be missing something from its diet? What should I do? It has destroyed my door?

Answer
I am really surprized that a junco is capable of doing that, but I believe you. Almost always that kind of behavior is a result of the bird seeing its reflection. Eliminate the reflection and it will go away.
