About Julia Booth
Expertise
I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena.

Experience
I have ten years birding experience in Southern California. I am well versed in all the species living in the Western US. Many hours spent birding. I have been frequently told I should lend my knowledge to good use, and have encountered few bird related questions that I cannot answer.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.

Subject: pond ducks, ducklings and canadian geese

Question
in my large backyard pond, the same geese keep coming back.   we now have 4 white ducks and 9 baby ducklings! the geese bother and scare the mother and her ducklings.  and of course they "dirty" our lawns with their feces. They also are very brazen to people!  i would never hurt any animal or bird but would like to protect the ducks and babies and get rid of the pests... the geese.  any idea's or suggestions?  There are many larger ponds very close by that i wish they would go to but no such luck...  hopefully you have ideas we could try.  Thank you so very much for your help.

Answer
Just so that I understand, you keep ducks as pets, but the geese are wild?

There are some products available that are used to deter pest birds and waterfowl, but none of them would work while you are trying to keep your ducks.

I recommend calling whoever your local animal controller is. They will not harm the geese, since they are protected. They will simply relocate them. No guarantee that they won't return. But it's better than nothing.

Julia
