Birding/quail eggs in our herb garden

Question
URGENT MESSAGE !  Mom Quail laid 14 eggs in our backyard herb garden. Also, it is a somewhat secluded location. Yesterday, my wife found a baby Quail outside the garden that looked as though a cat might have grabbed it and attempted to play with it and unfortunately did not survive.  That was the only egg that has hatched and it was open perfectly as though it was sliced with the razor knife.  We need to know whether Mom Quail is going to return to her 13 eggs that have not hatched or is she maybe too afraid for her own well-being ?  Is there anything we can do for Mom Quail to feel more secure ?  PLEASE, We need your help !  Thank you for being there ! Ron.

Answer
I can't tell you if the mother quail is going to return, but I can tell you that she will not abandon her eggs or young very easily. Usually the father is around as well. If you can, try to control the cats - there is can repellent you can buy that might be a temporary help.
