Question
hi,my son and i were walking our dog in the woods, when we found a ,YOUNG BENNETTS WOODPEKER.it had no external marks or cuts on it,it counld not fly,but able to walk a little. However it was choking on what looked like small seeds or even small maggots or worms about 3 mm long.We freed its air way of the maggots and set it down in under grouth.
Do you know what was wronge with the bird ?

Answer
I don't have enoughh information to determine what was wrong with the bird. If it was young enough that it just left the nest, it may just have eaten the wrong food as they need to learn the appropriate food to eat. Could be diseased or have parasites. I really can't say.
