Question
I believe i have several photos of an albino red tail hawk.
How rare are these birds and can you please give me some information about these? Would others be interested in these pictures?

Thank You,
Kevin

Answer
Albino birds aren't rare, but they aren't common either. I have never seen an albino hawk. But I've seen lots of other albino birds. They are more common in game birds, because of all the organized breeding. It's a genetic mutation that occurs like one in every 10,000 or something. I'm estimating.

As for who would specifically be interested in the photos themselves, I really don't know. It's not like having pictures of Big Foot or Lock Ness. If they are professional quality photos, you might be able to sell them to a birding magazine or website.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
