Birding/grown sparrow

Question
Rescued a full grown sparrow from my cats today. She has survived but no tail feathers left, can't fly.She is eating and drinking and has calmed down considerably. How long till those feathers grow back?
If I remember correctly it's won't be until she molts? How often do they do this. I am a dedicated ex vet tech so I do have patients. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Answer
You may have her for a while. Like you said, until the molt. Could be two months. If you keep her in captivity, just treat her like you would a finch. You can let her go when she's rehabbed. She should be able to fend for herself.

I assume you don't need bird care instructions. But one thing I do recommend is a mirror in her cage. That way she will be used to the idea of other birds.

Let me know if this doesn't answer your question,

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
