Question
My inside cat recently got out and caught a bird and carried it in the house alive.  I took it and put it outside, after taking some pictures, it was fine and flew off after recovering for a few minutes.  I was just so curious as to what it was.  I haev tried and tried to look it up.  First off I live in Georgia very near to Lawrenceville which is about an hour from Atlanta. My yard is heavily wooded and covered in leaves at the moment.  it was rather small in size(about like a tennis ball maybe a slight bit smaller in my hand).  It was all different shades of brown the wings having a slight hint of striping. i have attached a picture of it's head but it is rather large so I apologize for that.  i don't know how to make it smaller!  I hope you can satisfy my curiosity.  I do have another picture of the body if you need it.  thank you!

Answer
Sounds like a wren to me. They tend to eat on the ground and move vertically along tree trunks, making them easy prey for cats.

I'm not seeing a picture here. You can email it to me directly, if you're having trouble attaching it.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
