Birding/Baby Robins in a nest

Question
Hi, we just had some bushes taken out of our front walkway and this afternoon we noticed a robin's nest in a remaining roddy bush.  It's almost on the ground - we assume the lawn guys placed it there when they notice a nest with baby birds in it.  There seem to be 4 robins in the nest.  Crying desperately. We have not seen an adult bird. My children want to feed them bread crumbs.  I'm afraid we're going to find dead birds in the morning and the kids will be upset. Is there something we can do?  A few crumbs? Would they be abandoned? Would the adult be keeping them warm? I guess we should let nature take it's course but that seems harsh.

Thanks, Rita in Fairfield CT

Answer
The adults are probably feeding them and you should keep everyone away from them to encourage this. Otherwise let mnature take its course. The adults will nest again this early in the season. If you feed them they will bond to you and will never learn to forage or to avoid predators and will not be able to survive in the wild.
