Question
QUESTION: There was a pigeon nesting in the side of a building and one of the chicks fell out. It lokked like it might already have all of it's feathers but I didn't examine it thoroughly. It is much smaller than the parent pigeon and it doesn't know how to fly yet, although it did seem to want to get back up to its nest. Is there anything that I can do to help it or is it a fledgeling and should I just leave it alone?

ANSWER: Put it back in the nest if you can.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: That is not possable. The bulding is 1 and a half stories high. The bird fell out of a hole where tha nest was and landed on the window sill of the first story. It atempted to fly back up but it was only able to get a couple feet up before falling back. Otherwise I would..... Is there something else that I might be able to do for it?

Answer
You might try putting it in a shallow box on top of a stepladder under the hole or on something to get it up off the ground and the parents may feed it. Nail or staple the box to whatever you put it on so it won't blow off. If they don't it may be hard to accept but let nature take its course. When we try to feed baby birds ourselves they bond to us, don't learn to forage or to avoid predators and don't survive in the wild. Also in many places it is illegal.
