Question

stork or ibis?
I snapped a picture of what my mom thought was a wood stork, but its beak is
bent like an ibis... I was wondering if you might be able to identify it better!

Ok, this one made me go back to the field guides. It turns out that both the white and the scarlet ibises's juvenile (none of which I'd seen before) are almost identical (no wonder, since many believe that they are breeds of a same species).

Now, given the location where the bird was seen, it can be deduced that it's a white ibis (Eudocimus albus) because it's know range goes up to the middle of the Atlantic seaboard. On the other hand, the red ibis (E. ruber) is a South American bird that has never been seen further North than South Florida.
