Birding/robin babies

Question
in a topiary on our front poach, a robin nested and had 5 babies about 5 days ago.  We have not seen the mom in a day to two and the nest now has a ring of bird poop around its entire rim.  The babies seem less active, but that could be my imagination.  Anything wrong or is there something we can or should be doing?  thanks, K.

Answer
I can't exactly tell you because just because you have not seen the mom does not mean she has not been around. Or,it could be that she disappeared due to an accident or a predator. I don't know. If you are absolutely SURE the nest has been abandoned, call your local wildlife rehab center or wildlife official an din the meantime go to www.ornithology.com/rehab.html for advice on taking care of abandoned babies. Thanks for your concern.
