Birding/chickadee fledgling

Question
I found a chickadee fledgling hopping around my backyard this afternoon which I think
fell from our nesting box. It's tail feathers are pretty short and when I put in on a post and
it attempted to fly it just fluttered to the ground lagain. Now I have it under a colander and
the parents have heard it and are swooping around it. We can reach the nesting box--
should we put it back? We thought they might fledge in a few days but haven't kept an
exact count or even know when the eggs were laid. The parent chicadees had to fight off
some house wrens (which they did with the help of a wren guard).

Answer
Yes. Try to put it back. Plug the entrance with something for a few minutes until it settles down and maybe it will stay. If not put it in a shallow box nailed off the ground so a cat won't get him. And do you have my free 20 page bluebird book? If not send your mailing address to me at walshaw1@cox.net.
