Birding/Robin eggs

Question
A robin built a nest on our front porch under the eve. I looked in it and saw two eggs.  A robin sat with the eggs most of the time for two weeks.  We then had painters come to paint our house exterior and they were instructed to leave the nest alone, which they did.  After a week one day we didn't see the robin at all.  My wife looked in the nest and there were no eggs.  Would a robin move its eggs?

Answer
They're not physically capable of moving their eggs.

What condition is the nest in? Is there anything that would suggest a struggle? If there was one, that means the eggs were more than likely consumed by some other animal, and that the parents will not return to that particular site.

Keep your eye on the nest and see what happens.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
