Hi Julia.  I have a friend in South Africa (I live in New Zealand) that spotted a strangely coloured pigeon in her garden today.  She has posted photos of the bird on her facebook page.  She live in the Johannesburg area.  The bird appears to be the standard pigeon size, looks like your normal feral pigeon, but the colours are incredible - more like a St Patrick's Day green.  I have tried to copy and paste the photos, but it won't let me do that.  I could email you the photos (it will allow me to do that) so if you agree to that, I could forward the pics to you.  My friend, Hilary, is an experienced wildlife photographer, but as yet hasn't been able to identify this bird.  Perhaps you could help?  I will try this first - here is the link to the first pic - she has taken numerous photos of this pigeon - http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/photo.php?pid=31775225&id=1201565217&fbid=16...

She is trying to identify the bird and has asked for help.  Apparently google hasn't been helpful either.  Any ideas?

Sounds very interesting. I would love to see the images.

But I'm guessing that like my facebook account, hers is set so that only friends can view her pictures? I can't see them.

But she could always add me to her friend's list.
