Birding/Small bird

Question
The birds were in the trees. They're extremely small, and hard to see because they move so fast and don't sit still for long. They LOOKED brown. There were a lot of them, flitting in the trees, making twittering sounds. It was early morning. I have a field guide to birds, and my guess would be the common bushtit. Do you think that's right?
Thanks,
Suzanne

Answer
Definitely a bushtit. Good job.

They're a riot to watch. They never sit still. They're active at dawn and dusk. The majority of birds are. We call that crepuscular, as opposed to noctural or diurnal.

A couple years ago, I finally got a couple shots of them. But they're slightly blurry.

Expertise

I can answer questions about bird identification (by sight or sound), behavior, distribution, population, conservation, mating, nesting, fledging and feeding. I do have some practical knowledge about foreign species, but identification skills are limited in that arena. Bear in mind that as much as I know, it's possible that at least some of you will ask a question that I am unable to answer. At which point I would direct you to wherever or whomever I thought could provide you with that information.

Experience

I have 15 years birding experience in Southern California.

Organizations
Audubon Society

Education/Credentials
My education is in art and photography -but I have a substantial portfolio of nature related work.
