Birding/Injured female cardinal

Question
Hi Roger,

I found an injured female cardinal sunbathing on our driveway.  I say she is injured, the only thing that led me to that conclusion as that my dog ran at her and she didn't fly away----she hopped.  I'm assuming one of her wings may be injured but I could see no visible sign I (maybe it the injury was underneath the wing or internal).  Either way, I managed to put it in a bucket temporarily with some bird seed and water.  I called a local rehab around here and they do not rehabilitate songbirds.  I don't really know who else to call or what else to do.  Can you please advise???     Thank you.

Answer
I'm surprised that your local rehab center doesn't rehab songbirds; first I've ever heard of that. Your next best bets are to call a local wildlife official or veterinarian for help or advice. Meanwhile, go to www.ornithology.com/rehab for links to sites that give you detailed information on the care of injured birds. Thanks for your concern and good luck.
