Birding/Birds of Haiti

Question
Could you expound on the impact the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti had on the bird population? Thank you.

Answer
Bird populations were not naturally affected by the quake, but the effect it had on humans did and keeps doing so: people fleeing to the countryside from the devastated cities have increased the already-abundant slashing of forests to create wood coal for cooking. Also, some poaching of species as food source could have increased, though most species on the island are so small that they are not worth the effort of catching them.
