Birding/why?

Question
Hello Bluebird Bob. I hope this isn't too different a question for you, but why do you like bluebirds so much? There are a lot of pretty birds out there. Thanks.

Answer
I don't believe that you have our species of Bluebirds there, but I will try to answer your question. First, we nearly lost them some years ago due to both loss of habitat and competition from the alien starling and the house (English)sparrow - actually not a sparrow, but a weaver finch with its killer bill.

Second, they like to be around us. You can actually hold their babies until they are about 12 days old if you want to show them to your kids, etc. They will nest in special houses in your yard and will even learn to come when called for food. Once you are involved with them you are usually hooked for life. There are now tens of thousands of Bluebird houses and Bluebirders across Canada and the US. Bluebird Bob.
