Birding/Baby wrens

Question
I have a wren nest that has 4 baby wrens - hatched about 6 days ago.  I haven't seen the mother around for 3 days.  I can see in the little tunnel.  4 little open mouths and no food.  What do I do?  It breaks my heart.  There was a sick wren about 3 weeks ago that I tried to give water to, but it died.  Was that the father bird and he had finished making this nest?

Answer
That is difficult to bear but it is not unusual as birds have many predators. That is why they have so many young. Bear in mind that if they all survived we would be up to our hips in birds and they would overeat their food supply. The predators usually get the sick, the slow and the dumb and help to keep the species strong. It is nature's way.
