Question
Live in DE. Bird color is that of an indigo bunting all over top/bottom-solid, except wings are shades of brown. Tail feather ended with a thin band of white. The size was that of a mountain bluebird.  Top of bill appeared black/brown, bottom of bill was white.  Only have a Peterson First Guide bird book!  Thanks for any help.

Answer
I am most familiar with Bluebirds and other small cavity nesters, but it sounds like a Blue Grosbeak. The Birds of North America book at the library should help you. And if you have Bluebirds contact me at walshaw1@cox.net and I will send you some information. Bluebird Bob Walshaw.
