Question
We have Bluebirds and I know to clean their nest when the babies are gone; but this is the first year we have had a Carolina Chickadee.  The babies are just gone - do I clean the nest out so they can start over again or just leave it?
Is there anyway to stop barn swallows from building in the barn?

Answer
Remove all nests after young fledge. Chickadees usually have only one family a year and often Bluebirds use the box after them. And why do you want to stop barn swallows from nesting? They get tons of insects. They are a protected species and I would leave them alone. If you don't already have my free 20 page Bluebird book (I have sent out more than 2300) please send your mailing address to me at walshaw1@cox.net - Your address will be used only to mail the book. Good luck. Bluebird Bob Walshaw.
