Birding/Ground nesting birds?

North Central Ohio, New London, Huron County:
I have poplars growing and the grass has grown up around the trunks. Are there any birds that could have built a nesting site in this 6" grass?
Same question for several white pine trees.

P.S. I have 5 acres of old soy bean field re-establishing the local flora and the birds abound. I have fledged at least 75 bluebirds in the last 11 years and a brood just fledged. If only there was a way to eradicate the house sparrow!

I am a Bluebird and small cavity nester expert, but all I can tell you is that there are many ground nesting birds. Congratulations on your Bluebird success. If you will send your mailing address to me at I will send you my free Bluebird book which will give you help and trap contacts for handling those killer house sparrows. Good luck.
