Birding/Attracting birds, second story

Question
I have moved to a second story condominium with a large deck at the second story level. My attempts at attracting birds to the deck area have been unsuccessful. We do not use the deck very often and have tried a variety of feeders and seed types. Any suggestions?

Answer
Well, that's hard to answer since I don't know anything about the location of the condo, the surrounding habitat (is it rural or urban, is there a lot of human traffic, are there trees nearby, etc.) When did you put up the feeder? If there are birds nearby and you have just put up the feeder, it might take weeks or even months for them to find it and start using it. The types of seeds and feeders shouldn't make much difference in attracting some kinds of birds. So it is either the environment or the birds just haven't found it yet.
