Birding/Blue Bird Egg

Question
Hi Bob-
I'm really hoping you can help me !!  My husband found a baby blue bird egg out in our field when he was pulling weeds.  We have 2 Blue Bird houses with eggs in them and I have no idea how this egg ended up there.  It doesn't appeared cracked or damaged.  I am wondering if there is a way to know if the baby inside is still alive.  And also how I should take care of it in case it will still hatch.  Any info you could supply would be greatly appreciated!!  Thanks Much!!!
Elizabeth

Answer
It may sound harsh, but I would throw it away. There is no way you can guess the schedule of eggs in another nest or be able to feed a naked tiny bird. Sometimes birds know an egg will not hatch and they throw it out. Or a bird was ready to lay an egg and a nest was not ready. If you will send your mailing address to walshaw1@cox.net I will send you a great free 20 page Bluebird book. Bluebird Bob.
