Birding/Blue Jay in Chimney

Question
We have a blue jay that keeps flying into our chimney.  I managed to coax it out once and set it free but it has come back.  I have put wild bird seed in the fire place to try and lure it out but it has been two to three days and it has not come out.  I can see it and it is alive but I can't get near it.  Can you give me some advice.  My dad is going to put a cover on the chimney as soon as possible.  The bird can't fly back up the chimney.

Answer
Is it in the middle of the chimney? Is it stuck above the flue? It is not going to be lured by bird seed if it is, as it is apparently stuck. You need to get a long stick or a roto-rooter and push it down or up and then cover the chimney. Roger Lederer See ornithology.com for more advice on wild birds.
