Birding/Crows

Question
My wife is concerned that large black crows (we have an abundance of in our neighborhood) might attack our four pound Chihuahua puppy when he is playing in our back yard. Is this concerned founded?

Answer
Crows weigh about 3/4 pound and although they can be aggressive towards smaller birds and things like mice, they are not going to attack any kind of dog unless the dog is harassing their nests or young. But a random attack on your Chihuahua is very very unlikely. Even if they did, they can't do much harm. So,not to worry. Same goes for hawks. Although I have heard stories, I know of no authenticated case where a small dog was attacked by a hawk (or crow). Roger Lederer at Ornithology.com
