Question
QUESTION: I have a young mocking bird, and it holds it's leg up just a little and won't put it down. He is doing good except for that I have had him for about 2 or 3 weeks. I don't know what to do- I felt it and it didn't feel broken- do you know what I could do I feel bad for him and don't want him to suffer. He still eats and I am going to try and take him to the vet. Also I have a flycatcher but she seems to be doing good. Please help I am very worried- could his leg be broken?

Amber

ANSWER: Birds survive well with one leg. Please check with your Wildlife Department about keeping songbirds.

QUESTION: Okay well I am only 12 and there ain't no wildlife expert. I guess I am the only one here who really takes care of them:P I try to help wildlife.:)

Answer
By this time the Mockingbird should be fully grown. Put it outside for longer and longer periods so it can learn to get its own food. If you don't do this it won't be able to return to the wild. People often take young birds in when if they had left them outside the parents would have fed and taught them to get their own food.
