Birding/Owl Eggs

Question
A friend of mine recently had some trees cut down in his yard.  After cleaning up they found an egg.  They are pretty sure it's an owl egg.  I haven't seen the egg so cant tell you what it looks like or even what kind of owl.  We are wanting any information at all that could help them hatch this egg.

Answer
If it is an owl egg it should be closer to a round shape than the usual egg shape. Since we don't know how long that egg has been there we don't know if it is fertile or whether it is good at all.  It is illegal to possess wild bird eggs without proper permits. It is also very difficult to hatch and raise a baby bird of any sort.Best bet is to bring it to your local wildlife rehabilitation center and let them deal with it. If you don't have one, call your state fish and game office. Roger Lederer
