Birding - Squirrel proof ground feeder

Expert: Stew McKinney Jr. - 12/4/2005

Question
Hello.
Is there a vendor that sells a ground feeder that has a cage on top that will keep out squirrels?
I have one, but the openings are too large and smaller squirrels get in.
If I put out several feeders each one soon has a squirrel in it.
I just want a feeder that will accomodate the junkos, finches, and sparrows.
Thanks.

Answer
I have yet to find a squirell ptoof ground feeder. I like the feeders that use weight sensitive adjustments to keep heavier birds and squirells out of the food sourse.
Another idea might be to give the squirells their own feeding station away from where you feed the birds. Use corn. Eventually the squirells will take the corn over the bird food.

Hope this helps...
