Birding/Wild Birds

Question
Roger,
Can you tell me where birds go when they die? There are hundreds-thousands of birds in our neighborhood, yet I've never seen their feathery
remains in the yard, street, or anywhere else.
Thanks.
Walt

Answer
Birds don't go to any particular place to die. They die and decompose with the help of insects, mice, rats, and crows, etc. If you think about it, have you seen very many dead animals except as road kills? Also, birds are light boned and decompose quickly, one reason there are few bird fossils as compared to other groups of animals or plants. Roger Lederer at Ornithology.com
