Birding/baby bird

Question
One of my students brought in a baby bird. It has feathers and is still wobbly on its legs. What do I do. I am feeding it meal worms but it is always hungry and my money is running out. Is there a place to take them in Salt Lake City Utah. What can I feed it. I think she fed it worms for two days. Do I have to feed it during the night. How often in the day time. Can I feed it puppy food. Help Maureen

Answer
Best thing to do is to take it to a wildlife rehabilitation center - I'm sure there is one in your area. In the meantime, see www.ornithology.com/rehab.html for links to information on caring for baby birds. You need to feed it virtually every hour or less during the day. If it eats meal worms, keep doing that. Puppy food does not have enough protein. Roger Lederer at Ornithology.com
