Question
Greetings Roger!

I am looking for a decent bird-guide for Brazil.  We're traveling to Iguacu, Rio, Fernando de Noronha and Maceio.  Any ideas?  I typically stick to the Princeton Guides for our southeast asia and europe trips.  I'm a bit overwhelmed by my south america choices

Answer
Hi Gilbert. I've been to Brazil twice and am going again in March. I've used "All the Birds of Brazil" by Deodato Souza, Subbuteo Natural History Books. You can order it at http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/%7Ejudyc/CSF/events.html The illustrations aren't the best, but adequate. There is also A Birders Guide to Bahia, North-Eastern Brazil by D. Sargeant and J. Wall , Birding Brazil: A Checklist and Site Guide by B.C. Forrester , and Birds of Southwestern Brazil Catalogue and Guide to the Birds of the Pantanal of Mato Grosso and its Border Area by B. Dubs.
