Question
Is there anything I can put on my patio to deter hawks from landing?I sit there with my two teacup yorkies(4 lbs.ea) and let them play. Today a hawk was about 20 feet over the patio, probably waiting to get lunch. What is the prey for a hawk. Would one of those big owls that blow in the wind help?

Answer
I have received several similar questions. It is VERY highly unlikely that any hawk would try to take your yorkies. Hawks weight two pounds or less and I know of no authenticated cases where they have taken an adult dog or cat. It may have happened, but I am sure it is extremely rare. I'm not sure what species of hawk you are talking about, but they are mostly eating mice, rats, small birds, snakes, lizards, etc. Not dogs, even small ones. Not to worry.
