Question
we have a cardinal's nest in our honeysuckle vine right nest to our entrance gate into our yard.  the nests had 2 eggs and we have been watching and waiting for the hatching. we expected this to happen this weekend.  yesterday morning they were there and yesterday evening they were gone.  do cardinal's move their eggs?  or did something get them?  the nest does not look disturbed.  what type of animals, birds or other varmits would bother them?  all i know of that we have an abundance of would be squirrels..

Answer
Cardinals normally lay 3-4 eggs so it sounds like this nest was not finished, but it is possible. Cardinals do not move their eggs so they might have been taken by a Jay, Crow, Rat, or anything else, but not likely a squirrel. Roger Lederer at Ornithology.com
