Birding/robin

Question
I have a robin that nested above a light on my back porch.  She flies away every time we open the door.  I don't want to scare her away, but am unsure what we can do to ensure that the babies live.  What do you suggest?

Answer
There is not much you can do that would promise to be effective. If you can move the nest only a couple of feet, no more, maybe that would help. But the best solution is to use the back door less frequently. The more she is frightened, the more likely she is to abandon the nest. The whole nesting business lasts about a month, so perhaps that might work. Roger Lederer at Ornithology.com
