how do i mate two pigeons cock&hen that dont like each other orhow do imate them.please help.they are show kings.and how do i get the kings to rase there babys.

Answer
Hi, Dorain,

If the birds don't like each other, there is nothing you can do about it!  You'll have to find bird(s) that are compatible with each other.  Are you sure of their sexes?  They may not "get along" if they are the same sex.  They have to bond with each other first...have you given them enough time?  Have you locked them down in a cage together for a week or 2 so they will bond with each other?

Pigeons are normally excellent parents.  You may have other problems going on if the parents won't raise their own offspring.  Sometimes parent birds won't raise offspring that are ill because they know they are going to die anyway.  In cases like this, you can pull them and foster them to another breeding pair with offspring about the same age or pull them and handfeed them yourself.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
