Birds--General/Budgie Hygiene

Question
Hello, I have a question regarding the hygiene and possible ulterior irregularities found on my budgie's beak. Just recently after caretaking and cleaning, a small, red distinct bump located below her cere was evident. I've been doing my research lately and frankly found no infection/disorder correlating to my budgie problem (not mites). Is this naturally? What should I do?

Thank you for your courtesy.

Answer
Hi, Marshell,

For some reason, the person you sent your original request to could not answer.  I picked your question up in the question pool.

I would have to see a picture of this bird's beak in order to possibly determine what's going on (or at least a lot more details about what you are seeing).  Sometimes birds will get a seed hull or dried food on the beak.  It's not natural for the beak to contain "irregularities."  You may need to consult with a certified avian veterinarian to determine what is going on.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
